JV’ers score wins on the road

Neither Ignacio’s Lawrence Valdez nor Telluride’s Ian Enkema (1) were anywhere close to being the tallest players in the MinerDome on Saturday, Jan. 16, during the junior-varsity contest. But both made up for lack of stature with plenty of spring—as evidenced by this play, with Valdez drawing plenty of contact. Prepped for the game by a 52-27 drubbing of Mancos the night before (at MHS), the Bobcat JV drilled the Miners 59-32.
Ignacio’s Cole McCaw (1) gets Telluride’s Charlie Miller (2) reeling backwards off balance with a hard plant of his foot to create leaping space near the hoop during the Bobcat JV’s road victory Saturday, Jan. 16, in SJBL play. IHS, fresh off a 52-27 mashing of Mancos the night before at MHS, led the Miners 28-16 at halftime en route to a 59-32 triumph.
Ignacio’s Chamisa Edd (25) fires up a jumper over Telluride’s Alyssa Pack (20) during the Lady Bobcat JV’s road victory Saturday, Jan. 16, in SJBL play. Scoring for both junior varsities came at a premium, but IHS – minus a game the night before at Mancos, with the Lady Jays unable to assemble a JV squad – managed enough in winning 18 to 9.
Ignacio’s Tori Archuleta (30) looks to whip a pass into the frontcourt after evading Telluride’s Ting Taylor (12) during the Lady Bobcat JV’s road victory Saturday, Jan. 16, in SJBL play. Scoring for both junior varsities came at a premium, but IHS – minus a game the night before at Mancos, with the Lady Jays unable to assemble a JV squad – managed enough in winning 18 to 9.
