MADRIL – Stephen G. “Steve” Madril passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, surrounded by family.

Steve was born September 7, 1956, to Robert and Midge (Ruybal) Madril in Alamosa, Colorado. Steve grew up in Alamosa, but graduated from Durango High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1976 and was honorably discharged in 1980. While in service, Steve was a rifle sharpshooter and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Mast, Good Conduct Medal, and received a letter of recognition.

In 1981, he met Bernice, they married in 1982. Steve and Bernice raised their sons in Durango. Steve worked in the construction industry and most recently for the Southern Ute Tribe.

Steve enjoyed spending weekends at Pastorius Lake, being outdoors, taking care of his yard, but most of all – spending time with his grandkids. He was always helping others, especially his buddy and neighbor Jack.

Steve is survived by his wife, Bernice; sons: Matt (Kayla) Madril and Steven (Amanda Walker) Madril; Siblings: Bob Madril, Evelyn Barry, and Rose (Nick) Rees; grandchildren: Kobe, Dreis, Keelan, and one on the way Kaizen.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Tony; sisters: Anna O’Malley and Peggy Gafford.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. Final resting place and burial will be held during a private ceremony with family.
