Aiming for less truancy, increase in attendance

Along with the Ignacio School District, we are aiming for less truancy, and an increase in attendance. Thank you to all of the parents for taking your child to school and being on time. On days your child may be sick, please call the office before 8 a.m. as we understand that we all get sick occasionally.

The elementary level was introduced to a Montessori based language program that has the students stay engaged, focused, and are showing growth. With our beginning of the year assessments completed, we are looking forward to the mid-year assessment with positivity. As SUIMA uses a curriculum that is not data based, we know that data collecting will help us drive instruction. Though we’ve used standardized assessments for several years, through our strategic planning process we have begun graphing and mapping it out. Along with academic data, we have worked hard to compile data on the growth of the Southern Ute language with our students. While this is difficult without a standardized assessment, the Ute Language teachers created a system that has provided a baseline to work with. We are looking forward to the mid-year results so we can make changes in areas we can make improvements in.

Autumn is here, the rain has been amazing, and the leaves are quickly changing colors. By having apple trees on the school grounds, the classrooms get to make applesauce, juice, and learn about the harvesting process. With this being the season of fresh food, SUIMA will work with the SUIT Agriculture Department at the farm by picking fruits and vegetables and using some of what is picked in our school lunch.

Early Release Days are every Friday at 2 p.m.
