Pawaaghani Pɵˈɵkwatʉ – Eagle’s Nest

SUIMA has been busy these past few weeks, with many activities and lessons happening outside. Though it may have been chilly, our primary students enjoyed their annual Easter Egg Hunt at SunUte Park. By the time lunch rolled around, the weather changed, and it warmed up enough to be pleasant.

We also had students enjoy a day in the sun with area schools as they competed in the Bowker Games that were held in Durango, Colo. Students from throughout the area came to run the meter races and exciting relays, among other track-style events.

Collaborating with Ben Zimmerman from Natural Resources, the upper elementary students learned about the water shed, how erosion occurs, and even had a chance to run an excavator as they spent time outdoors at Rock Creek. As we have worked with the Stillwater Organization from Durango, our elementary students are preparing to put on quite a show on May 14. They’ll be performing music, showing off their artwork, having a poetry slam, a silent auction, and dinner at Dancing Spirit. Playing not only with his peers, and under the direction of Stillwater, an upper elementary also enjoyed playing in a Battle of the Bands competition.

So, as you can see, springtime around SUIMA has been full of events.

Early Release Days are every Friday at 2 p.m.
