As an accredited American Montessori Society school, the SUIMA staff is required to participate in Professional Development. Our recent trip to the national Montessori conference allowed us to join Montessorians from around the nation as well as some from around the world. We were excited and anticipatory for what this conference would bring.
The keynote speakers included author Suneel Gupta, artist Eric Wahl, Olympian Dominique Dawes, and educator Alexis Nikole Nelson, who shared inspiring stories and gave us valuable insights. We joined in on workshops, daylong courses, and tours of Montessori schools in the Denver area.
Being among thousands of fellow attendees, our passion for the Montessori method was reignited. We saw the Montessori math materials be presented in ways we hadn’t seen before, we heard how we can be authentically Montessori in this present time of a rapidly changing world, we met with other Indigenous schools who are revitalizing their language just like we are, and we became excited over science!
This conference will propel us forward to help the students grow, encourage staff to think outside the box, do amazing things, and be ready to shine when our next reaccreditation takes place in 2027.
Thank you to everyone who supported us in our fundraising efforts, so that all the staff could attend the AMS conference!
