Gaining extra reps this season by suiting up for the Ignacio C-team, Ryley Webb (3) leans into a spike against Ridgway's Samantha Medina (2) during home action inside Ignacio Middle School Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 13. Improving to 1-2 overall, 1-0 in the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League entering the Sept. 19-20 weekend, the Volleycats avoided the Lady Demons' shocking Game 1 comeback bid to secure a tight 25-23, 25-23 result and Katrina Richards' first coaching victory at IHS.
Ignacio JV player Leela Rosa (17) takes advantage of space to hit, with Mancos' Kirsten Broderick (6) watching from afar on Thursday, Sept. 11. The Volleycats, coming off a 2-0 road win at Ouray five days earlier, fell 25-23, 25-11 to the Lady Jays, but managed to take a consequence-free third game from Ridgway on the 13. The Lady Demons had already claimed the match by 25-12 and 25-20 counts, but IHS then breezed to a 25-6 rout as the teams looked to gain as much experience for the season as was possible. Under head coach Melanie Seibel, IHS' JV stood 1-4 overall, 1-2 in the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League entering the Sept. 19-20 weekend.
