Prescribed Burn southwest of Pagosa


On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, the Southern Ute Agency, Fire Management Department is planning to conduct a Prescribed Burn project approximately sixteen miles Southwest of Pagosa Springs, CO.

The burn project is dependent on weather and burning conditions therefore a window has been established from September 15 through September 30, 2014.  We will try for the earliest possible time.

The burn project is located on Southern Ute Indian Reservation and covers 110 acres. The approximate center of the burn is located at:  37° 07’ 15” x 107° 16’ 30” and covers, all or portions, of Sections 9 and 10 in T-33N, R-3W.

The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuels and improve wildlife habitat.    Smoke may be visible from the Chimney Rock, Pagosa Springs and surrounding areas.
