Eat a rainbow every day

Fresh local produce is still available at our grocery stores and farmers’ markets.  You can find plentiful zucchini, yellow squash, and peppers of all kinds, cantaloupe, eggplant and carrots. Just to name a few.

Why eat local produce? By doing so, you not only support our local agriculture, reduce the carbon footprint to our environment, make connections with local growers and ranchers, but you also get the benefit of the freshest and most nutritious foods available locally.

A way to save money is by eating fresh produce, while they are ‘in season.’ This is the season when crops are grown and sold locally.

Why eat foods from a rainbow of color? To maximize nutrition by providing our bodies with a variety of nutrients: vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals that have been linked to improved health and decreased risk of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

So go ahead and eat a rainbow every day!
