Six-month education internship program

The Southern Ute Adult Occupational Training Program is accepting applications for tribal members who are interested in working for six months as an intern. Call Luana Herrera at the Southern Ute Education Department at 970-563-0237.

Adult Occupational Training Program now taking scholarship applications

The Southern Ute Adult Occupational Training Program is now accepting applications on a first-come-first-served basis. There are 15 scholarships available at this time. The scholarships are for tribal members who are interested in attending a vocational training school (non-profit) or a junior college with a certificate program. In order for students to attend any school, it has to be an accredited and approved by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. There is no deadline for the certificate program, since some vocational training schools are year round. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, call Luana Herrera at 970-563-0237.

GED test dates

The Department of Education would like to announce the GED test dates for the upcoming months: March 1, April 5 and May 3. The test is held at the Southern Ute Education Building at 330 Burns Ave.  Registration and payments are due by Tuesday before the test. Scholarships are available for Native Americans who live within 50 miles of the service area, spend 12 hours in class, score a 450 on practice tests and submit paperwork two weeks in advance. Register, pay and schedule at www.GEDcomputer.com. The test must be taken at The Southern Ute Education Center. Call 970-759-1953 for details. The GED test will be changing January 2014. All previous test scores will expire and students will need to retake all 5 sections. It is important that students complete all 5 sections of their GED before the January 2014 date. Also, the Education Department has an online GED Academy classroom that is available for at home GED test preparation.
